Volunteer Handbook - Diocese of Swansea & Brecon
Volunteer Handbook

Welcome to Our Volunteers' Handbook

This handbook has been created to guide and support you throughout your time volunteering with The Diocese of Swansea & Brecon. Inside, you'll find key information about our values, policies, procedures, and what you can expect as a volunteer.

Welcome from Bishop John

Bishop John Lomas

Thank you for choosing to volunteer with The Diocese of Swansea and Brecon. Your time, skills, and dedication are invaluable to us. We are truly grateful for your willingness to serve. Volunteers are at the heart of our work, and we want you to feel included, valued, and supported in everything you do.

We believe that God is love (1 John 4:8) and that we are called to be agents of that love to others, to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in building up God's kingdom. This motivation is in everything that we do. It is in the care and respect we offer others, the outreach we extend to the most marginalised in our communities and it includes providing a safe and respectful environment for all.

By familiarising yourself with this guide, you'll gain a clearer understanding of your role, responsibilities, and the support available to you as well as an outline of the diocese's broader expectations and guidelines.

We ask all our volunteers to partner with us in ensuring the safeguarding of all people. Safeguarding is embedded into everything that happens in the life of our diocese. This includes ensuring that roles and responsibilities are clear, that the right policies and procedures are in place and that the protection of all people is all our responsibility.

We hope that your time volunteering with us is both meaningful and enjoyable. Whether you're offering practical help, a listening ear, or a warm welcome, your contribution makes a real difference in the life of our Church and the wider community.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We look forward to working alongside you.

With every blessing,
Bishop John Lomas
The Diocese of Swansea & Brecon
