Swansea Minster

Serving Wales' Second City

Swansea Minster stands as a sacred and civic landmark in the heart of Wales' second city—a place where prayer, presence, and purpose converge. As the first Minster within the life of the Church in Wales, declared in February 2025, our shared story is rooted in tradition, yet reaching boldly into the future.

This is a building of regional impact and urban significance. It is a place where the Church meets the city—not only in worship, but in witness, welcome, and work. Here, the rhythm of daily prayer anchors a community of faith that seeks to serve the people of Swansea with compassion, creativity, and courage.

Swansea Minster is not just the first Minster in Wales' history, but it is a place of profound significance—a spiritual home for the city, a beacon of hope, and a centre for mission.

A vision for the city

"A great day for Swansea and a great day for St Mary's... It's wonderful to see it now, really stepping into a new kind of work for the whole city... This is wonderful for Swansea, wonderful for the Church's profile here, and I really wish it every blessing."
— Bishop Rowan Williams, 'Minster Making Day'

Canon Justin Davies shares a vision that resonates deeply with the heart of the Minster:

"I have this dream for the church—place at the centre of God's people... A space consecrated by the prayers of so many who have saturated it in praise, hope and longing... A wave of mission that looks something like the kingdom of God set loose on a city."
— Praying like Monks, living like fools, Tyler Stanton
