Rev'd Dr Adrian Morgan appointed as new Dean of Brecon

The Rev'd Dr Adrian Morgan has been appointed as the new Dean of Brecon, returning to the cathedral where he was ordained deacon and priest.

The announcement was made this morning at both Brecon Cathedral and St Catherine's Mission Hub Church in Gorseinon, where Adrian is currently vicar.

Adrian, who is married to Clare and has two daughters, Elena and Betsan, said it was a great honour to be returning to the cathedral where he was ordained.

"It is a great honour and privilege to be invited to serve as Dean of Brecon. My faith and vocation have been nurtured within this diocese, and Brecon Cathedral has been part of that journey for many years. It was there that I was ordained deacon and priest, and throughout my ministry it has remained a place of prayer, encouragement and inspiration.

"I have a deep affection for the people of this diocese and a strong sense of gratitude for all that I have received from them. Over many years, I have been encouraged by the faith, generosity and commitment of clergy and lay people across Swansea and Brecon, and I look forward to serving them in this new role."

Announcing the appointment, Bishop John said Adrian brings a wealth of experience of ministry and mission across the diocese.

"I have great pleasure in announcing that the Rev'd Dr Adrian Morgan, after interviews, has been formally offered the post of Dean of Brecon. His hard work and dedication, alongside the people and clergy of the Llwchwr Ministry Area, has borne great fruit over the years he has served and the completion of the project at the church hall and the healthy growth of congregations under his care will be a fitting legacy of his service there."

Adrian thanked the congregations of St Catherine's and St David's for their kindness and support, and said he was looking forward to helping Brecon cathedral grow as a welcoming home for the whole diocese.

"I come to the cathedral first and foremost as a pastor. I look forward to getting to know the congregation, staff and volunteers, worshipping alongside them, and sharing in the life of this remarkable community of faith. Together, I hope we can build on the cathedral's rich heritage and continue its witness at the heart of the diocese.

"As the mother church of the diocese, Brecon Cathedral holds a special place in our common life. It is where we gather as a diocesan family in moments of celebration, thanksgiving and prayer. One of my hopes is that it will continue to grow as a welcoming home for the whole diocese — a place where everyone knows they belong, where faith is nurtured, where vocations are encouraged, and where people encounter the love of God.

"At the same time, Clare, Elena, Betsan and I leave Gorseinon and Loughor with hearts full of gratitude. The people of St Catherine's and St David's have shown us extraordinary kindness, friendship and support. We have shared wonderful years together and have seen God do remarkable things among us. While it is difficult to say goodbye, I do so with confidence and hope, knowing that strong foundations have been laid for the future and that God has many blessings still in store for these churches and communities."

Bishop John said: "We look forward to this new chapter in Adrian's ministry in the mother church of the diocese. Please remember Adrian and the family in your prayers as they prepare for their move to the cathedral."
