Chorister Chaperone

Brecon Cathedral is looking for a Chorister Chaperone to support the work of the Music Department, ensuring that the cathedral's duty of care towards the choristers is fulfilled.

Voluntary Real Living Wage: £13.45

Additional hours may occasionally be agreed with the Director of Music to cover busier periods and/or concerts and tours.

Purpose

To support the work of the Music Department by ensuring that the cathedral's duty of care towards the choristers is fulfilled.

Duties

Rehearsals and services

  • To attend all of the choristers' scheduled rehearsals and services.
  • To keep a register of attendance at all rehearsals and services.
  • To supervise robing and disrobing before and after services.
  • To supervise break times for the choristers, and prepare and supervise refreshments when required.

Welfare and safeguarding

  • To be aware of each chorister's medical needs and respond to any sickness or special need while a chorister is in the cathedral's care.
  • To respond as required to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each chorister.
  • To log any incidents or illnesses, reporting to the Director of Music at the end of each session, or immediately as necessary.
  • To be aware of and act upon safeguarding responsibilities.
  • To ensure each child is safely collected by an authorised parent/guardian.
  • To work within the Chapter's Health and Safety policy.

Trips, communication and training

  • To liaise with chorister parents as necessary.
  • To attend and provide support for choir trips, tours, recordings, and other events when the choristers are singing.
  • To attend meetings with the Director of Music when required.
  • To participate in training as required, including First Aid and safeguarding.
  • To work within the cathedral's ethos and the Church in Wales Dignity Charter.
  • To carry out any other appropriate duties.

Person specification

Essential

  • Ability to work with children and young adults of different ages.
  • Awareness of current safeguarding, Health and Safety and behaviour matters.
  • Excellent personal and communication skills.
  • Email and mobile phone competence.
  • Attention to detail in record-keeping.
  • Ability to work closely and flexibly within a small team.
  • Ability to respond to any child's health issues at appropriate levels (the post holder does not need to be medically trained, but must hold or be willing to hold a First Aid certificate, for which training will be provided).

Desirable

  • In sympathy with the aims and practices of the Church in Wales.
