Anna Chaplaincy's Sally co-authors new spiritual care guide

Rev'd Sally Rees, Anna Chaplaincy lead for Wales, has co-authored a new practical resource to help care home staff provide spiritual and religious care for residents.

Enabling Spiritual Care: A guide for care home staff, published by BRF (Bible Reading Fellowship), is a 160-page paperback drawing on expertise developed through the Anna Chaplaincy movement. Sally is joined as co-author by Debbie Thrower, Julia Burton-Jones, and Catriona Foster.

The book equips care workers to understand and facilitate spiritual and religious care for residents, with a particular focus on older people who are Christians. It includes practical examples of prayers, hymns, and services for use with groups and individuals, along with guidance on end-of-life spiritual care and supporting those unable to attend a funeral. There are also sections on self-care and attending to the caregiver's own spiritual needs. All faiths and belief systems are respected throughout.

Sally and fellow co-author Julia Burton-Jones will discuss the book at a launch event hosted by Bookish in Crickhowell on Wednesday 30 July, 7.30pm–9.00pm. The evening will include a Q&A session and book signing. Tickets are £10 without the book or £18 with a copy. The bookshop will be open before the event and for a limited time afterwards, with 10% off any books purchased on the night.

Enabling Spiritual Care is available now from BRF and other booksellers.
