Rhydybriw Armistice service brings church and Sennybridge camp together

An Armistice Day service at Rhydybriw Church has brought together the congregation, local dignitaries and personnel from Sennybridge camp to remember those who served and died in war.

The service was officiated by Rev’d Liz Matthews and attended by officers and staff of Sennybridge camp, along with local dignitaries and members of the church congregation. Among those present was a member of the congregation who had served as a land army girl during World War II.

This year marks a number of significant anniversaries: 80 years since the end of World War II and 85 years since the military created the Epynt training area and built Sennybridge camp.

With an army bugler in attendance, memorial wreaths were laid on the two war graves following the two-minute silence.

The Armistice service was also the first to be held in the newly decorated church, and a celebratory reception for all was held afterwards in the Epynt Club within the camp.

The next combined service will be a carol service held on Thursday 18 December at 11.00am. All are welcome to join. Rhydybriw has a service on every third Sunday of the month at 9.30am.
