St David’s becomes first Gold Eco Church in diocese

Bishop John has presented St David’s Church in Loughor with its gold Eco Church award at a special service.

St David’s is the first church to achieve a gold award in the diocese, and the congregation included Tonia Antoniazzi MP, mayor of Loughor Wilf Smith, Eco Church officer for Wales Delyth Higgins, the church team who led the project and some of those who had advised and helped them.

Eco Church, run by the charity A Rocha, encourages congregations to improve their environmental impact. It focuses on five areas: worship, buildings, land management, community and global engagement, and lifestyle. A certain level of achievement in each area is required to win an award, and there are bronze, silver, and gold awards.
