Mothers' Union

Celebrating 150 years of Mothers' Union worldwide

This year Mothers' Union Worldwide celebrates the 150th anniversary of its founding. Its longevity is good sign of the relevance of Christian concern for families and support of those having difficulty.

There will be celebrations in each of the 83 countries where it is based, a big gathering in Durban and one in London to which a couple of dozen from our diocese are going and, locally, a big Songs of Praise in Brecon Cathedral. In Swansea and Brecon, symbolising the way the vision has been passed on down the years and through the diocese, two torches will be passed from branch to branch. We are going to do this in the most innovative and fun ways we can come up with, so watch this space!

We hope to use some of this year to fund raise for ongoing and new projects, and to raise our profile as we'd love people to join us and share our enjoyment.

Did you for example know:

  • That men and women can be – and are – members
  • That you don't need to attend branch meetings to support the work and stay in touch through membership
  • That membership is not confined to Anglicans, but open to any baptised Christian who agrees with the aim and objects
